Will Overwatch be released for the Nintendo Switch? It's a question we've asked ourselves a few times over the last few months, and it looks as though the developers behind the game are chewing it over for themselves.

The tease of a possible port came via Reddit, where game director Jeff Kaplan talked about his love of the new Nintendo console and a desire on the team's part to explore new platforms for the game:

“I'm loving the Switch!” he began. “My second favourite gaming platform of all time is the 3DS. Getting OW [Overwatch] on the Switch is very challenging for us. But we're always open minded about exploring possible platforms.”

It's a promising insight for owners of the Switch, then, and an analysis of Overwatch's technical performance by our colleagues at Digital Foundry last year suggests this highly scalable game might meet the limitations of the hardware.

There are other functional challenges when it comes to porting Overwatch to the Nintendo Switch though. This is a hybrid home console/handheld device after all, and while you likely have an internet connection at home for playing an online multiplayer shooter, conditions are very different out on the road.

Putting aside our initial excitement about the possibility, the hardware might prove a tough-sell for a game like this, one with very little in the way of single-player content outside of the training ground.
